Cycle of Security

I'm taking a graduate course about crisis counseling and one of the concepts we are learning about is the Circle of Security. In the graphic below, this circle is describe as it can be promoted with toddlers and preschool children.  It's worthwhile to click around on the Website a bit, and watch the 4 minute "Good Enough Parenting" video that describes how parents can help develop secure attachment with their children.  Secure attachment relationships with caregivers are a protective factor for infants and preschoolers, setting the foundation for social competence and promoting effective functioning of the emotion regulation and stress response systems. When we can help build a strong and secure foundation for our kids, they will feel both safe and empowered.
