Automatic Negative Thoughts

Third graders just had a lesson about Automatic Negative Thoughts. ANTS are critical thoughts that jump into our brain really quickly. This can become a bad habit that we CAN break by using a calming strategy and then listening to our inner coach.  Then we need to listen for our Inner Coach to tell us the more realistic and logical thought. Special phrases that can keep us in our inner coach are:

  • Maybe
  • Might
  • Probably
  • I wonder if
  • I could try
  • YET
